In 95% of cases of vascular conditions, it is possible for the diagnosis to be reached by the vascular surgeon at the initial consultation on clinical grounds alone, i.e. based on taking a thoughtful, comprehensive history and on examining the patient carefully.
There will always be cases when either invasive or noninvasive diagnostic measures are required in order to either confirm the diagnosis or evaluate the functional severity of the condition or select the appropriate therapy.
The vascular surgeon is the physician qualified to decide whether any diagnostic studies are required and what they should involve.
